The Lear Coloring
Book
I hope you enjoy coloring in my coloring
book. Lear, of course, drew all his limerick illustrations in black on white.
In about 1870, however, some forty years after the original
publication, A Book of Nonsense was re-published in an edition with
color illustrations. In all likelihood Edward Lear colored them himself.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Viking Press, in 1980, published
a delightful, modern version of that rare color edition.
Here in my Lear Coloring Book you can try your hand at "making little
folks merry" -- just click and click. You'll be amazed at how well you
can color, never going over the line...
If you want to preserve your artwork, use your computer's screen capture
program to grab the picture area and then save it as a graphic file to
print at your leisure. I suggest the freeware capture program MWSnap
which can be downloaded at
